Erling Johansen has lived a rich and active life in the intersection between business, culture, and nature. With decades of experience as a project manager and board leader for companies across borders, he is well-versed in handling complex challenges — always with a deep love for people and progress.

He is particularly passionate about innovation and transformation processes, and has served as Honorary Consul for Latvia for over 20 years, closely following key political and societal changes across Europe. He has also lived and worked in the Balkans, and is an avid traveler. Having spent years exploring Europe, Asia, and the Americas, Africa is next on his list.

He has chaired The Norwegian Association of Whisky Connoisseurs for nearly 40 years, and his love for single malt and Scotland takes him back regularly.

A Life Closer to Nature

While his background is rooted in leadership and diplomacy, recent years have brought a shift: less office, more outdoors. You’ll now find Erling skiing, hiking, paddling, or tenting — often at his mountain farm in Heidal, Gudbrandsdalen, or far north on Svalbard, where he guides ski and hiking tours and camps out in the wild.

With his natural presence, Erling has increasingly been cast in modeling and film roles, often as himself, or embodying roles such as a wise man, modern Norse figure, or friendly grandfather.

Filmed in Norway’s legendary mountain range, this project was a collaboration between GM FILMS and Modern Nomad Hammocks (Latvia), with Erling hosting the Latvian crew in his mountain cabin, sharing stories by the fireplace and guiding them through Norway’s wild terrain.
